Karthik expelled from Forward Bloc, may float new outfitMay 18th, 2008 - 8:04 pm ICT by admin
Madurai (Tamil Nadu), May 18 (IANS) All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) general secretary and parliament member Debabrata Biswas said Sunday that the party’s Tamil Nadu unit secretary M. Karthik has been expelled from the party here. “Karthik failed to attend important party meets and his leadership led to the party’s growth being stunted. A new set of office-bearers will be announced in three months. For the time being, a seven-member committee headed by R. Devaraj will lead the party here,” Biswas said following the outfit’s central committee meeting here.
Karthik, who organised a parallel meet of party faithfuls earlier in the day, however, denied the charges.
The actor-turned-politician said he was withdrawing from politics for some time as he “needed a break”.
“From zero-presence in Tamil Nadu, I helped it spread in 16 districts here. Since Biswas refuses to acknowledge this basic truth, he is unfit to be its all-India leader. I will keep off politics for some time as I need a break,” Karthik said at the separate meeting.
Sources close to Karthik said a new regional party under his leadership was in the offing since he has sizeable support within the Thevar community that supports the Forward Bloc in Tamil Nadu.
Karthik has played hero in over 100 films and led the Forward Bloc’s state unit since 2006.
