Kamat appeals for calm ahead of Ayodhya verdict
September 22nd, 2010 - 11:20 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Sep 22 (IANS) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Wednesday appealed to the public to maintain calm in view of the Allahabad High Court verdict in the Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi dispute due Friday.
“All precautions are being taken to ensure that law and order is maintained in Goa,” Kamat told reporters after chairing a meeting of top home department officials Wednesday evening.
The meeting was attended by state Chief Secretary Sanjiv Srivastava, Director General of Police Bhimsain Bassi, state Home Minister Ravi Naik and other officers who reviewed the law and order situation in the state.
Kamat urged the public not to fall prey to malicious propaganda before or after the judgment is pronounced.
“The district collectors have been asked to conduct peace committee meetings to see that peace is maintained in the state,” Kamat said, adding that section 144 Indian Penal Code (IPC) would be enforced in the state as a precautionary measure.
“Police quick reaction teams will be posted at various places throughout the state,” Kamat said.
