Kalyan Singh’s supporters create ruckus in Ayodhya
January 6th, 2010 - 9:39 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Lucknow, Jan 6 (IANS) Supporters of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh created a ruckus in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district after the authorities disallowed him to enter the disputed site in Ayodhya with his security guards, officials said Wednesday.
Following the objections of the authorities, Singh ultimately had to leave behind his security guards before entering the disputed site, where he paid obeisance to Lord Ram, the officials added.
After launching his new political outfit — Jan Kranti Party — in Lucknow Tuesday, Singh announced a visit to Ayodhya to offer prayers to Lord Ram.
“As per the rules, carrying of firearms or weapons inside the disputed site is totally prohibited. So, the security personnel did not permit Singh’s gunmen to enter the disputed site,” Senior Superintendent of Police R.K.S. Rathore told IANS on telephone from Faizabad, some 150 km from Lucknow.
“As security personnel stopped the leader’s gunmen, there was a resentment amongst supporters of Kalyan Singh. They started creating a ruckus. However, our officials and security personnel were quick to sort out the matter within no time,” Rathore added.
Singh, who was chief minister when the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was brought down by Hindu zealots in December 1992, told reporters that he was “not in favour of demolition of the Babri mosque”.
“I feel that a permanent solution to the Ayodhya temple tangle lies in an amicable settlement. For this, I will even talk to the Muslims,” Singh added.
