Judicial accountability bill in, food bill deferred

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS) The cabinet Tuesday cleared two key anti-graft bills - the judicial accountability bill and the public grievances redressal bill - but deferred the food security bill, a key plank of the Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC), following reservations from allies, it is learnt.
The approval of the two anti-graft bills is viewed as a step to outsmart Team Anna, which has charged the government with lacking the will to battle corruption.
Food Minister K.V. Thomas told reporters that discussions on the food security bill were non-conclusive and further talks would be held.
According to sources, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar raised objections to the food security bill, saying it will be a financial burden on the government.
