Bahujan Samaj Party Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Feb 1 (IANS) Expressing optimism about her continuing in office after the assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Wednesday said support to her party can be judged from the size of crowds at her election rallies.

She also charged the Congress-led central government with not giving adequate assistance for development of the state.

Talking to reporters in this district adjoining Lucknow, Mayawati said her government had done more work in the past five years than any other government in the state since the country became independent and asserted that only her Bahujan Samaj Party can ensure progress of all communities.

“There is need to ensure progress of all communities. Only BSP can ensure that people from all communities are on their feet,” Mayawati said.

Asked if she would continue to be chief minister after the elections, Mayawati said the question should be put to people who have to elect a new government.

“You can judge seeing the crowds,” Mayawati said.

Mayawati, who Wednesday launched her campaign for assembly polls, said work done by her government over the past five years needs to be continued to improve living standards of people.

She said Uttar Pradesh was the most populous state in the country but the previous governments had not made adequate efforts to lift living standards of its people.

“The work done in the last five years in the state is more than that done by any state government… the Centre did not cooperate with us fully,” Mayawati said.
