January 18th, 2012 - 10:10 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Panaji, Jan 18 (IANS) Over 40 journalists Wednesday staged a sit-in outside the cabin of the Goa chief electoral officer, accusing the latter denying them information under “political pressure”.
The journalists, nearly all of whom have been assigned to the Goa assembly election beat, protested against S. Kumaraswamy, shouting slogans for nearly an hour.
They accused him of keeping back information on the code of conduct violations while the local media has been extensively reporting that election authorities were being pressured by ruling camp politicians.
“The press briefing is scheduled to be held every day. Over the last two days they have been avoiding the media because of political pressure,” former president of the Goa Union of Journalists Prakash Kamat said.
He said that the officer’s office was ducking queries about the code of conduct violations involving ticket aspirants backed by the ruling Congress.
