Amethi, July 17 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Friday said the remarks by the party’s Uttar Pradesh chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi against Chief Minister Mayawati were “unfortunate and wrong”.
Gandhi’s comment came while he was speaking to reporters in his constituency.
Joshi was arrested after midnight Wednesday in Ghaziabad for her remarks against Mayawati, who termed the statement insulting to her as a woman and a Dalit. Joshi has been charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
