dinnerWashington, May 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The White House Correspondents Dinner 2010 was held on Saturday at the Washington Hilton in the presence of close to 3000 guests, including President Barack Obama. It was, like most other years, an evening of jokes. However this time on the jokes did not revolve around the President’s policies but on the tan of John Boehner and on Vice-president Joseph R. Biden’s lack of restraint.

The dinner which was the second one for the President after 2009 did not see him in his funniest mood. Although it has been reported that President Barack Obama was funnier than Jay Leno, the famous host of the “Tonight Show”, with Vice-president Joseph R. Biden stealing the crown of the funniest man present in the dinner. President Barack Obama made it clear yesterday evening that he was going to narrate jokes directed only to himself. He spoke about the sudden decline in his ratings in America and also the theory that he was apparently born in Kenya, not in America as was previously known. Well, at least his ratings were still high in Kenya, joked the President.

The White House Correspondents Dinner has entered its 96th year on Saturday night. Over the years it has grown in glitz and glamor. The dinner was originally organized to honor achievements in the field of journalism and to raise money for the journalistic association’s scholarship fund. Today it has become a very important event in the political arena of the United States what with the attendance of eminent people from not only the field of politics but also the field of entertainment.
