Kolkata, Sep 16 (IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Thursday asked youngsters in West Bengal to join the Youth Congress that he said would give them a platform to raise their voices on issues affecting the nation.
“I am overwhelmed by the reception in Bengal. I want to give the youth of Bengal a platform to raise their voice. I want youngsters to join politics and embrace the Youth Congress.
“The membership drive is only a part of the whole process. After the drive we will guarantee free and fair elections. There will be no nomination or quota,” Gandhi assured.
Gandhi said: “When the recruitment drive was launched, the opposition parties ridiculed it and said implementing what we intended to do was next to impossible.”
“The recruitment drive has already covered ten states. We will cover the whole of India. I have been given responsibility of the Youth Congress and NSUI with the aim of bringing the youth into politics,” Gandhi told a media meet here.
