John Stupak Called ‘Baby-Killer’ On House Floor
March 22nd, 2010 - 11:53 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonMar 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There were many slurs and objections yelled out in the House of Representatives on Sunday night as the battle raged over the newly passed Health Care Bill. The bill has caused a great bit of upset in America, as many feel it was passed against the wishes of the citizens of the United States and goes against everything the Constitution of the United States stands for. Emotions were heated as the representatives gave their varied opinions of the bill, and let their intended votes be known. Many websites are showing the high state of irritation the opposing party was feeling. One site known as Rebellion News shows a video of the speech given by the Republican representative for Ohio, John Boehner as he shares the thoughts and feelings of many Americans. This video shows the emotions connected with the “change” which is coming to America.
In another video(embedded below) you can see as Democratic Rep Bart Stupak urged his fellow Democrats to vote down a Republican amendment on abortion services in the health care bill. During his speech, you can hear as many give shouts of derision from the Democratic side, since Stupak was considered the leading anti-abortion Democrat. He held out on his decision to vote “yes” to the bill until President Obama signed an Executive Order against using federal funds on abortion. As Stupak gave his speech, someone sounded as if they yelled out, “Baby Killer!” from the house floor.
It was initially thought that the slur came from Rep John Campbell, and he acknowledged that it was yelled out by a Republican, but he does not know which one. He insinuated that it was one of the Texan Republicans, saying that it came from behind him where they usually sit. He stated that he heard “a Southern accent.”
He added, “The people who know won’t give it up,” and said the statement was “clear as a bell.”
This issue was a sore point for more than religious and pro-life reasons, it was considered by many to be the deciding force of the entire health care bill. About a half dozen House Democrats, led by Rep. Bart Stupak worked to have abortion removed from the bill. This is essential, since the bill was passed with a difference of only a few votes. If these Democrats had voted ‘no’ it is most likely that the bill would not have made it through. The odd fact about this is that an Executive Order is the word of a man. It will NOT override a law. The bill that has just passed is now a law, and the words in it which allow for the federal funds to pay for abortions, completely wipes out any Executive Order. Some are saying this means that order is of no more importance than a blog entry, or it isn’t worth the paper it is printed on.
