Nov 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) There is a bit of good news for the Democrats who have received a severe drubbing in the US midterm electoral poll. While they were beaten by the GOP candidates in some of the important seats and became a minority in the House, they managed to take the lead in Senate. They also succeeded in retaining some important seats to themselves. While the win of incumbent Barbara Boxer in crucial California Senate race brought some relief to them, the win of John Kitzhaber in Oregon election race turned out to be the icing on the cake. John Kitzhaber has become the new Oregon governor and his rival GOP contestant has conceded his defeat, according to the latest update.
The victory of John Kitzhaber in Oregon was preceded by some intense hours of ballot counting and he maintained a narrow margin over the GOP opponent which made his win very uncertain. Even by Wednesday morning, his rival Chris Dudley had a narrow edge over him but after that the scenario changed. By the end of Wednesday, he emerged as the winner. He will serve his third term as the governor of Oregon now. His win was ascertained by the votes he got from Pro-democratic cities including Portland and Eugene.
The Oregon gubernatorial race kept the political analysts guessing till the evening of Wednesday. At around 7 pm, the GOP candidate conceded defeat. Later, Chris Dudley told the media that he had conceded the race. He also called up John Kitzhaber and congratulated him for his win. He also added that he accepted the verdict given by the voters.
