Joblessness driving youth to taverns in rural Goa: lawmaker

- Panaji, July 20 (IANS) Congress legislator Dayanand Narvekar Monday said the state government was not doing much to offset rising unemployment, which was driving youth to alcohol.
Speaking at the Monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly Monday, Narvekar, a former finance minister, said taverns or bars in rural Goa have now become the haunts of unemployed youth.
“Taverns are the only places which are doing brisk business in rural areas, where the unemployed youth flock to,” Narvekar said.
There are nearly 7,000 bars spread throughout Goa catering to a population of 13.5 lakh.
“Where are the unemployed youth going to go? To prostitution, massage parlours, casinos? What are they going to do?” Narvekar asked.
Further in his criticism of his own government, the Congress legislator said the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has failed to provide the youth with any jobs and the event held annually has been reduced to a ‘wining and dining’ event.
“The IFFI is just a waste of money. There is nothing coming back to the people of the state. We should have at least built a film city on the lines of the film city which has been built in Chennai,” he said, adding that the facility was providing the local youth with several employment avenues relating to the film industry.
“Here during these film festivals we have seen an audience of three persons sometimes in the auditorium,” Narvekar said.
Narvekar was also critical of the state government splurging on advertising campaigns for tourism at a time when it was facing financial crunch. The tourism department has spent Rs.15 crore to promote tourism in Goa.

Really goan youths are going off track.
They want easy money so they take it to crimes easily to spend that money in alcohal, cars, drugs, casinos and prostitution.
They are the one of the most violent youths in india and physically attacks tourists from other part of country abusing them in filthy langauge.
some drastic action is needed to be taken otherwise goan society will go to dogs.
these youths need good education. the youths from coastal belt are the most violent one.
The taxi drivers, the bike renter, the jet ski ride workers, the shack waiters, night club bouncers, the drug dealers are the mainly goan youths and are very violent.
they drives very recklessly the bikes and cars and often picks fight with tourist even tourist is not a fault.
but how long it will go ?
Some tourist who had bad experience in goa in the hands of goan youth has swore while leaving Goa that they will beat any goan if they find them in any part of country.
violent can not be justyfied by anyone against anyone.
But why indians from other part goes with such a bitterness after horrible insults, abuses and physical violence from the hand of goan youths of coastal belt. some serious thought is needed to be given by government and society.

I have lived in GOA FOR MANY YEARS AND I LEFT GOA FOR ONE REASON.
The goan belonging to a certain community do not consider India as their county and they do not like indians.
They want to earn their livelyhood from indians but they hate indians.
The call indians as ghati means illitread and stupid.
Often indian tourist are the subject to abuse and violence.
i HVE BEEN BEATEN UP VERY BADLY MANY TIME BY GOANS BY NO FAULT OF MINE.
I FELT UNSAFE.
POLICE IS NOT HELPFUL UNLESS YOU BRIBE THEM.
HOW ONE CAN LIVE IN GOA IN SUCHA HUMILIATING AND DANGEROUS SITUATION.
CENTRAL GOVERMENT SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO BRING THIS PARTICULAR COMMUNITY IN MAINSTREAM BEFORE THEY POISON THE MINDS OF OTHER GOANS.
