Ranchi, May 11 (IANS) The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is unhappy over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) declaration that it alone will rule the state for the next four-and-a-half years.
“The BJP and JMM had agreed to share power for 28 months each. Now the BJP has to decide whether it wants a stable government or not,” Hemant Soren, the JMM legislature party leader and son of outgoing Chief Minister Shibu Soren, told reporters late Monday.
Soren made the comment after a meeting of JMM legislators that lasted nearly four hours Monday night.
“JMM wants a stable government in the state and has decided to support the BJP. Now BJP has to decide how it will provide a stable government,” the younger Soren said after the meeting.
On the issue of sharing power by rotation, he said: “We hope the BJP will maintain the coalition dharma.”
Hemant Soren said his party has demanded five-plus ministers in the BJP-headed government.
Asked about differences in the party over supporting the BJP, he said: “There can be different views but the party is united.”
BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and Ananth Kumar will seek the opinion of his party’s Jharkhand legislators in Ranchi Tuesday to know who should be the new chief minister.
The JMM decided to prop up the BJP in order to end a dragging political crisis in Jharkhand sparked off by Shibu Soren’s decision to vote against BJP cut motions in the Lok Sabha. That decision led the BJP to withdraw legislative support to the ruling JMM.
