JKLF chairman Yasin Malik detained
April 19th, 2010 - 1:53 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, April 19 (IANS) Muhammad Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), was detained by the police while he was on his way to Kupwara in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Monday, police said.
“Yasin Malik was detained at Mirgund (Pattan) along with some of his associates today (Monday),” a police officer said here.
Malik was on his way to Devar Lolab village in Kupwara district to meet the family of 70-year-old Habibullah Khan who was killed April 14 by the army, claiming that he was a separatist guerrilla.
Khan later turned out to be a beggar when his son, Raj Mohammad Khan, came forward to claim his body. His body was exhumed and handed over to the family by authorities here Saturday.
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah told reporters here Sunday that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would raise the issue with the army chief, General V.K. Singh.
Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel J.S. Brar had Saturday said that the slain man could have been used by the separatist guerrillas as a human shield or as a guide when he was killed in Rainawari forest area of Kupwara.
Police in Kupwara have registered a case.
