Jharkhand to sack 19 irregularly appointed officials
July 9th, 2010 - 7:44 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, July 9 (IANS) The Jharkhand government has initiated the process to dismiss 19 officials it says were irregularly appointed in 2007 by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).
“The personal department has sought the views of the legal department whether these officials could be sacked without serving them a show cause notice. If the legal department clears their dismissal, then the officials appointed through the second JPSC examination will be sacked,” a government official told IANS.
In an examination conducted in 2007 the marks of 19 candidates were boosted to show them as having passed. A majority of these officials are relatives of politicians and ex-members of the JPSC.
The Jharkhand vigilance bureau lodged a FIR June 12 against a total of 32 people, including former JPSC chairman Dileep Prasad, three former members of the commission and the 19 officials.
After the FIR, the personal department had asked these 19 officials to report for work in Ranchi, but none of them obeyed the order and all are reportedly absconding.
A total of 172 people had qualified for different posts, including deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and block development officers (BDOs) in the JPSC examinations.
The 19 officials in question include eight BDOs, six DSPs, four state finance service official and one cooperative service official.
