Jharkhand Premier League cricket matches begin

Ranchi, March 13 (IANS) The first edition of the Twenty20 Jharkhand Premier League (JPL) got off to a flying start at a newly-built stadium at Ranchi Sunday with Chief Minister Arjun Munda inaugurating the tournament.

The inaugural match was played between Jamshedpur Jaanbaaz and Dhanbad Diamonds. Jamshedpur won by 35 runs.

Munda arrived at the international cricket stadium at Dhruva in Ranchi and Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) President Amitabh Choudhary introduced him to the JPL players.

Munda said the tournament would help hone international level cricketers. “Jharkhand has produced (Indian cricket captain) M.S. Dhoni and Saurabh Tewari and more talented players will come out from JPL,” he said.

The match was enjoyed by actress Sambhavana Seth, who regaled the crowd by joining cheer leaders for a jig.

Five teams are participating in the inaugural season of the tournament. Two matches would be played everyday. All the matches will be telecast live by Ten Sports.
