Jharkhand JD-U president arrested for 1995 poll code violation
November 22nd, 2009 - 8:29 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Nov 22 (IANS) Jaleshwar Mahto, president of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) in Jharkhand, was arrested in a 14-year-old poll code violation case in Dhanbad district Sunday, police said.
Jaleshwar Mahto was arrested near Mahuda village when he was returning after attending a rally. Mahto is a JD-U nominee from Baghmara assembly seat of Dhanbad district, which is around 240 km from Ranchi.
He addressed a rally along with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at Mahuda village Sunday afternoon and was arrested when he was returning after attending the rally.
According to police, a case regarding violation of the model code of conduct was lodged against him in 1995.
