Ranchi, July 17 (IANS) The son of a Congress legislator in Jharkhand has been arrested on charges of abducting a businessmen, police said Friday.
Vishal Tirkey, son of Congress legislator Niel Tirkey, was arrested Thursday evening along with his associate Mehfhooz Aalam.

They were travelling in a Scorpio car when Harpal Singh, the man they had allegedly abducted, raised an alarm. A police patrol team heard him and nabbed Vishal and Aalam.

Harpal, who sells incense sticks, belongs to Uttar Pradesh. He was in Ranchi on business. Vishal had asked Harpal to meet him near the yoga ashram Thursday to discuss business matters.

Harpal reached the spot with his associates Dageshwar Yadav and Rajendra Singh. Vishal also came with two associates in the Scorpio.

Harpal and his friends were forced to sit in the vehicle. Later, Yadav and Rajendra were told to alight from the vehicle. One associate of Vishal took them somewhere else.

Harpal raised an alarm after he realised he was being abducted by Vishal and Aalam.

Niel Tirkey has, however, denied that his son was involved in the abduction.

“My son is innocent. Drug mafias have hatched a plot to trap my son,” the legislator told reporters.
