Jharkhand Congress attacks Munda government over special status
November 15th, 2011 - 6:21 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Nov 15 (IANS) The opposition Congress party Tuesday issued a white paper on Jharkhand’s 12th anniversary criticising the BJP-led Arjun Munda government for seeking special status for the state.
“It is ridiculous that the BJP government in Jharkhand is seeking special package and status for the state despite the fact it does not spend 83 percent of the money of centrally-sponsored schemes,” Asha Kumari, Jharkhand Congress in-charge, told IANS.
She said: “Of the state’s plan, 90 percent fund is given by the central government. Of the 90 percent fund, the state spends only 16 to 17 percent funds. The state government seeks money from the Planning Commission but it fails to implement the schemes.”
Releasing the white paper, Asha Kumari said: “In the last 11 years, successive governments have only plundered the state. Jharkhand was created for the development of the region, but people who were in power plundered the state. Jharkhand still lags behind in roads, power, health and other sectors.”
Jharkhand was created from Bihar on Nov 15, 2000 for development of the region. The tribal population constitutes nearly 27 percent of the state’s 3.25 crore people.
