Ranchi, April 8 (IANS) Social activist Anna Hazare’s campaign for strong and effective anti-graft law is getting mass support in Jharkhand - one of India’s most backward states.

Under the banner of Jharkhand Andolankari Morcha, hundreds of people staged a sit-in at the Albert Ekka roundabout here Friday.

“The central government should accept Hazare’s demand on the Lokpal Bill,” said Vinod Bhagat, convenor of the morcha.

On Thursday night, hundreds of people belonging to different sections took out candlelight march in Ranchi.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist CPI-ML) Friday staged a separate sit-in at the Albert Ekka roundabout. Party general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and party workers, including its lone legislator Vinod Singh, kept a day-long fast.

Supporting the Jan Lokpal Bill, Bhattacharya blamed privatisation for rising corruption.

The Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) has also announced its support to Hazare’s demand.

Party activists staged protests in steel city Jamshedpur. “We have submitted a memorandum to the president through district administration. We demand Right to Fight Corruption on the line of RTI (Right to Information) Act,” JDP president Salkhan Murmu told reporters.
