Jayalalithaa takes oath as Tamil Nadu chief minister (Lead)
May 16th, 2011 - 2:38 pm ICT by IANSChennai, May 16 (IANS) J. Jayalalithaa, the 63-year-old general secretary of the AIADMK, was Monday sworn in as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu, ascending to the post for the third time since 1991.
Jayalalithaa was administered the oath of office by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at Madras University’s Centenary Hall. She is to head a 33-member council of ministers.
She succeeds M. Karunanidhi of the DMK. Her AIADMK-led alliance trounced the DMK-led coalition by winning 203 of the 234 assembly seats.
