Jayalalithaa blames DMK for medical entrance exam
December 16th, 2010 - 3:25 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Dec 16 (IANS) AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa Thursday blamed DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for not opposing the common medical entrance exam and for the Rs.3 hike in petrol price.Referring to the Supreme Court order permitting the Medical Council of India (MCI) to conduct a common entrance exam for medical college admissions, Jayalalithaa said in a statement: “The decision will affect the 69 percent reservation in medical seats secured during my rule.”
She said the apex court decision enables MCI to hold the common entrance exam from 2011-12 academic year onwards.
According to her, the DMK chief should leverage his influence with the central government and force it to scrap the common entrance exam proposal.
Condemning the recent hike in petrol prices by around Rs.3 by the three state-run oil firms — Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum, Jayalalithaa said the fuel prices have been raised eight times this year, amounting to a total hike of Rs.11.86 per litre.
She said the hike was a burden on the poor and the middle classes and demanded a roll- back.
