Chennai, March 21 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi Friday employed sarcastic puns to attack his political opponents. He was particularly severe on All India Anna DMK boss and Leader of Opposition J. Jayalalithaa.

In a statement issued in the Q & A format for his party organ Murasoli, Karunanidhi said: “During the last two years, this government has started 13 major industries with an outlay of Rs.175.6 billion, generating 141,640 direct and indirect employment opportunities. Perhaps such statistics are triggering derisive laughter from Jayalalithaa. However, when one laughs more than necessary, it has a different meaning”.

Karunanidhi also directed his ire against ‘fraternal ally’ Pattali Makkal Katchi legislature party leader G.K. Mani.

“Since Mani says that our (Thursday’s) budget was a mixture of love and hate, I wonder whether one has consumed the other as he has also praised our presentation in parts,” Karunanidhi remarked.
