Bharatiya Janata Party Kanpur, Feb 23 (IANS) Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal Thursday said Uttar Pradesh will have President’s Rule if no party gets majority in the polls. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called his statement a “threat to the electorate”.

Speaking in Kanpur, where polling was held for the fifth phase of the assembly polls Thursday, Jaiswal said: “In that case (if no party wins a majority), we will sit in opposition and the governor will take charge.”

Reacting to Jaiswal’s statement, BJP leader Kalraj Mishra said in Lucknow that the minister was “threatening the electorate of the state”.

“He is misusing his position as a minister,” Mishra added.

Jaiswal, however, said he had full confidence in the numbers for the Congress-Rashtriya Lok Dal alliance. “Only those who don’t have confidence in their numbers are talking about a post-poll alliance.”

Uttar Pradesh is holding seven-phased assembly polls that ends March 3.
