Jagjivan Ram Foundation member resigns
June 28th, 2011 - 10:16 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 28 (IANS) A member of the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation Tuesday said he has resigned in protest after not even one general body meeting was held for the past three years.
The foundation in memory of the former deputy prime minister comes under the the social justice and empowerment ministry.
“It is ironical that not even a single general body meeting has been held for the past three years and I have sent my resignation letter to the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment and foundation chairman Mukul Wasnik on June 21,” member O.P. Maurya told IANS.
The foundation was established on March 15, 2008 with the objective of implementing special schemes for removing untouchability and caste-based prejudices in the society. It was also intended to encourage and promote Dalit artists through specially designed development schemes for their social, cultural, educational and economic development.
The first meeting of the foundation was held on May 7, 2008.
Maurya said as per the rules, a general body meeting was ordinarily required once a year and the gap between two such meetings should not have been more than 18 months. This had not been followed in the last three years.
“I have been trying to bring the matter to the notice of Mr. Wasnik for the past one year but he did not pay heed to the matter. Finally, I had to sent my resignation letter. I have received no response from the minister yet,” said Maurya.
