Hyderabad, Oct 21 (IANS) Amid continuing political uncertainty in Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, Congress MP and son of former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Wednesday left for New Delhi.
The Kadapa MP will attend a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on finance. He, however, is likely to meet some central leaders of the Congress to discuss the political situation in the state.
It is not clear if he would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
This is Jagan’s first visit to the national capital after his father, known as YSR, died in a helicopter crash Sep 2. The visit assumes significance in view of the continuing “Jagan-for-CM” campaign by YSR loyalists.
Jagan is visiting New Delhi at a time his father’s close aide and Rajya Sabha MP K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao is also in the capital meeting party leaders.
KVP, as he is popularly known, is lobbying for Jagan and has visited Delhi thrice during last one month.
Jagan’s camp, which is waiting for a call from the central leadership of the party, expressed resentment over party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi’s statement that no invitation was extended to Jagan to meet party leaders in Delhi.
Senior leader M. Veerappa Moily, in-charge of party affairs in the state, has also said that the leadership had not fixed a date for inviting Jagan to New Delhi.
Despite indications from the leadership that K. Rosaiah would continue as the chief minister for now, the young MP’s supporters are hoping that the leadership would intervene to end the political uncertainty.
The war of words between supporters and detractors of Jagan is also continuing. While the loyalists want the leadership to clear the air by making its stand clear on their demand, the opponents are saying that Rosaiah would stay as chief minister till 2014.
Minister for Women Development and Child Welfare Konda Surekha, a staunch Jagan supporter, Tuesday demanded that the leadership immediately call a meeting of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to elect the new leader. She threatened to resign as minister if Rosaiah continued as chief minister.
