New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) Amid political uncertainty in Andhra Pradesh, Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, son of former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, arrived here Wednesday hoping to meet party president Sonia Gandhi to stake his claim for the chief minister’s post.
Jaganmohan said he had sought an appointment with Sonia Gandhi. “I will definitely meet her if she is kind enough to give an appointment,” he told reporters here.
But the Congress, which has declared that it does not want to disrupt K. Rosiah who became chief minister after the death of YSR in a helicopter crash Sep 2, said it had no idea about a Jaganmohan-Gandhi meeting.
Gandhi is currently in Shimla and a meeting between her and Jaganmohan would be possible only after the results to the assembly elections held in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh come out Thursday.
One Congress source said a meeting was possible Friday. But Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said: “I have no idea.”
She said all Congress leaders regularly met the Congress president.
The 37-year-old Congress MP is ostensibly here to attend a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on finance.
This is Jaganmohan’s first visit to the capital after his father, known as YSR, died. The visit assumes significance in view of the continuing “Jagan-for-CM” campaign by YSR loyalists.
Jaganmohan is visiting New Delhi at a time his father’s close aide and Rajya Sabha MP K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao is also in the capital meeting party leaders.
KVP, as he is popularly known, is lobbying for Jagan and has visited Delhi thrice during last one month.
