Iyer now attacks CPI-M
January 5th, 2011 - 8:55 pm ICT by IANSKochi, Jan 5 (IANS) Former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer, who has attacked relatives of former chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan for allegedly amassing wealth, Wednesday questioned the silence of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on the issue. Iyer told reporters here: “I think it is their (CPI-M’s) duty to speak on this issue. Silence is guilt.”
Iyer said that after news surfaced that Balakrishnan’s relatives had amassed illegal wealth, the CPI-M’s youth wing, Democratic Youth Front of India, came out against Balakrishnan.
But since then, the group had gone silent.
Iyer Dec 27 demanded an investigation to find out how Balakrishnan’s son-in-law P.V. Srinijin, a lawyer by profession, acquired so much wealth in just three years.
He dared Balakrishnan, currently chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, to break his silence. He asked Balakrishnan to quit the rights panel and face a judicial probe.
Apart from Srinijin, Balakrishnan’s brother and special government counsel K.G. Bhaskaran has also been accused of amassing wealth.
