Iran’s Ahmadinejad names two women as cabinet ministers
August 16th, 2009 - 7:36 pm ICT by IANSTehran, Aug 16 (IANS) Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday named two women among six ministers to his new cabinet, Iranian labour news agency reported.
The names of the rest of his cabinet ministers would be announced Wednesday, the report said.
The Iranian leader made the announcement during his address to the nation on Channel 1 television.
The six cabinet ministers include Ali Akbar Mehrabiyan, industry and mine; Shamsodin Hosseini, finance; Fatemeh Ajorlou, welfare and social security; Marziyeh Dastjerdi, health; Moslehi, intelligence; and Abasi, cooperative.
Dastgerdi, 50, is a gynecologist, while Ajorlu, 43, is a lawmaker.
The Iranian leader said one more woman will join his cabinet, but did not reveal her name Sunday.
This will be the first time Iran will have female cabinet ministers since 1970s.
Iran’s last female minister, Farrokhroo Parsay, served from 1968 to 1977. She was executed on charges of corruption after the 1979 Islamic Revolution that brought hard-line Islamists, led by Ayatollah Khomenei, to power.
