Tehran, Feb 10 (IANS) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Tuesday said his country was ready for dialogue with the US provided the talks were based on mutual respect and conducted in a fair atmosphere, the official IRNA news agency reported.

“Iranian nation welcomes true changes; Iranian nation is ready for dialogue in a fair atmosphere and mutual respect,” he said at a rally organised in Tehran’s Azadi (liberty) Square to mark the 30th anniversary of the Islamic revolution in Iran.

“The new US administration has announced that they want to produce change and pursue the course of dialogue,” he said at the rally attended by thousands of people.

He said: “It is very clear that real change must be fundamental and not tactical. It is clear the Iranian nation welcomes real changes and is ready for dialogue in a climate of equality and mutual respect.”

Criticising the US policy on terrorism, the Iranian leader said his county had been struggling against terrorism and called on the US to cooperate with Iran in its efforts.

“If you really wish to counter terrorism, come and cooperate with Iran that has been the main victim of terrorism so that terrorism will be uprooted,” he said.

“We can give you address of terrorism sheltered in certain European countries… and in other countries that have especially good relations with you. Though I think it’s far from the truth that you are not aware of them,” Ahmadinejad said.

State-organised mass demonstrations started Tuesday throughout Iran, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the revolution that established the Islamic Republic in Iran.

Iran celebrates the victory of the revolution on the 22nd of the Iranian month of Bahman, which this year falls Feb 10. That date in 1979 marked the collapse of the last government of the US backed Shah.
