Tehran, Feb 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Iran raised the tensions between the Islamic state and its foes further when the country revealed that a preemptive strike is possible. An Iranian army commander gave the revelation hinting that Tehran is ready to confront states it considers its enemies.

During a chat with the Iranian news agency Fars, Mohammad Hejazi, the deputy head of the Iranian armed forces, said the country will strike against its “enemies” if they feel threatened.

Hejazi was quoted by the report as saying that, “Our strategy now is that if we feel our enemies want to endanger Iran’s national interests, and want to decide to do that, we will act without waiting for their actions.”

Iran has been facing international pressure regarding its nuclear program. The country has insisted for years that the program is meant for peaceful purposes but observers have disputed that claim saying the country is gradually reaching nuclear capability.

Israel has named Iran as the worst threat to its existence. President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad had indicated in the past that as soon as Iran can do so, Israel will be “wiped off the map.”

International sanctions have been imposed on Iran but the country has defiantly stated that they will not stop their nuclear ambition.
