Institutional, not personal issues with Khurshid: Quraishi

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS) Terming reports of personal differences with Law Minister Salman Khurshid as “ridiculous”, Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi Friday said there were some institutional issues between them.
Replying to a query on writing a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Khurshid’s comment that the Election Commission came under the administrative control of the law ministry, Quarishi said: “We did write a letter couple of weeks ago but can’t share anything more on this.”
“We have some perspectives which we share…it is a ridiculous idea (personal differences with Khurshid) and we are friends. It is just institutional issues,” Quraishi told reporters here.
He said the Election Commission has received Khurshid’s reply on a show cause notice served on him for violating the election code of conduct.
“We are yet to discuss the reply and as per the procedure, if the reply is satisfactory then the matter will be dropped or else action will be taken,” he said.
Khurshid, in a recent interview to a TV channel, said the centre possessed some sort of administrative control over the Election Commission.
