Bharatiya Janata Party New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Wednesday appealed to people to vote for the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to power under the leadership of his long-time colleague L.K. Advani.
Vajpayee, 82, who is not contesting elections this time because of poor health, asked people to take a pledge “to elect ‘the determined leader and decisive government’ - which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised and Advani will fulfill”, according to the text of his appeal.

The appeal comes on the eve of the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

“The nation is today standing at the crossroads of destiny. One road leads to the UPA (Congress-led United Progressive Alliance) government, which has ignored development and security during the last five years. The second road leads to those coalitions whose chief aim is to get power by hook or crook.”

“The third way goes to the BJP-led NDA, which is committed to political stability, development, good governance and security. In its six years of rule, it has realised this pledge,” Vajpayee said.

On Advani, he noted: “We have been working together since 1952. We have worked together in government and in opposition. I am impressed by his intellect, clarity of thought and ability to take everybody together. He has a unique place in Indian politics.”

“He has a big contribution in taking the BJP to the heights it has achieved. I believe India today needs a political leader like him,” the veteran leader noted.

“Let us pledge to ensure the formation of the next government under the leadership of Advani and build a grand India.”
