Lucknow, Feb 13 (IANS) In Uttar Pradesh, the Shiv Sena plans to “catch young couples and inform their ignorant parents” on Valentine’s Day this Saturday, the Sena’s state unit head said here Friday.
“On Feb 14, our activists will catch unmarried couples from hotels, eating joints, malls, cinema halls and other places and later inform their ignorant parents,” state Shiv Sena president Udai Pandey told IANS. He did not say how they planned to identify the unmarried couples.
“After catching the couples, we will ask for their parents contact number and narrate their love story to their parents on cellular phones that the activists will be carrying,” Pandey said.
“The new way of moral policing will make us register our protest against western culture in a violence-free manner.”
Shiv Sena president of Varanasi district Gulshan Kapoor told IANS: “Different teams have been constituted that will especially target school and college students who visit parks to make obscene love.”
There are nearly 400,000 Shiv Sainiks in the 71 districts of the state.
State police chief Vikram Singh has directed officials to maintain law and order on Valentine’s Day.
“To instill a sense of security, police, including women, in plainclothes will be deployed in and around parks, hotels, malls and public places,” said Raghuveer Lal, Lucknow’s senior superintendent of police (law and order).
