Imprisoned Shahabuddin accused of threatening jailorAugust 4th, 2008 - 4:45 pm ICT by IANS
Patna, Aug 4 (IANS) Jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin has allegedly abused and threatened a Bihar jail officer for not signing a letter seeking his favour. Jailor Ramadhar Singh has complained that Shahabuddin, lodged in Siwan district jail, misbehaved with him and threatened him.
“I filed a complaint (against Shahabuddin) with the Mufassil Police Station in Siwan town Sunday for abusing, misbehaving and threatening me,” Singh said Monday.
Siwan district officer Vandana Preyasi confirmed that a fresh case had been lodged against Shahabuddin for his misconduct with a jail official. Preyasi said the FIR was lodged on the basis of the statement of the jailor.
Singh in his complaint said that MP Shahabuddin had sent him a letter to favour an official. But when he refused to sign the letter he abused him and threatened him, according to sources.
However, officials refused to divulge the name of the officer Shahabuddin had sought favour for and also declined to say what kind of favour he wanted from Singh.
It is not the first time that a case was lodged against the jailed RJD leader for misbehaving with a jail official.
Last year, he allegedly threatened jailor Sanjeev Kumar and abused him for not allowing him to meet union minister of state for human resource development M.A.A. Fatmi.
In 2006, the jailed MP had threatened assistant jailor Vashisht Rai, who was part of the government team stationed for the MP’s security at AIIMS in New Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment.
Shahabuddin, a lawmaker from Siwan since 1996, is accused in over 40 cases, including those of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and violation of the Foreign Exchange Act and the Arms Act.
He has been convicted in four cases. The RJD leader was convicted in March 2007 for his role in an attack on the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML) office in Siwan in 1998.
