Ranchi, Aug 20(IANS) Normal life was partially affected in Jharkhand due to the nation-wide shutdown called by trade unions affiliated to the Left parties.In Ranchi, activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) were forcing shopkeepers to shut down shops and attendances in government offices were marginal. The most affected districts were Dhanbad and Bokaro where Left unions have a strong presence.
In Ranchi, the police arrested Bhuneshwar Mehta, a CPI Lok Sabha member from Hazaribagh, while he was trying to enforce the strike in Ranchi. More than one hundred CPI workers were arrested in Ranchi.
Vehicles were plying, schools were open in Ranchi. In Dhanbad, the strike impact was visible. Shops were closed and very few vehicles were plying on the road. There was hardly any impact on railway services in the state.
