Srinagar, Nov 23 (IANS) The moderate Hurriyat group Monday suspended all its office bearers and various committees of the conglomerate in the wake of differences over the proposed ‘quiet dialogue’ with the central government.
The Hurriyat executive met Monday at the conglomerate’s uptown Rajbagh headquarters here, and decided to keep its various committees in suspended animation while the group also suspended all its office bearers with immediate effect.
Monday’s extraordinary meeting of the seven-member executive presided over by the chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq took serious note of the recent divergent statements by various general council members of the conglomerate regarding the proposed ‘quiet dialogue’ between the Hurriyat and the central government.
The offer of ‘quiet dialogue’ away from the media glare was proposed by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram during his visit to the state last month.
“The statements were described by the conglomerate as violative of the group’s constitution and instructions were issued to various constituents to desist from issuing any statement in future,” a statement issued here after the group’s meeting said.
“The meeting empowered the chairman to take steps to strengthen and consolidate the separatist conglomerate,” it added.
