Hung assembly in Maharashtra, Congress to sweep Haryana: poll

New Delhi, Oct 8 (IANS) It will be a hung verdict in Maharashtra but the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance will end with most seats while the Congress will sweep Haryana in coming assembly elections, an opinion poll Thursday said.
According to the survey by Star News channel, the Congress-NCP combine ruling Maharashtra will win up to 140 of the 288 assembly seats. It said the Congress will win 88 seats and the NCP 52 seats.
According to the survey of 23,122 voters in Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance will bag 118 seats, with 63 seats going to the Shiv Sena.
In 2004, the NCP won 71 and the Congress 69 seats. The Shiv Sena was on top in 62 constituencies while the BJP bagged 52 seats.
In Haryana, the survey gave 65 of 90 assembly seats to the ruling Congress party. It gave only two seats to the BJP and eight to the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
In 2005, the Congress won 67 seats while the BJP and INLD got two and nine seats respectively.
Maharashtra and Haryana will see polling Oct 13 along with Arunachal Pradesh. The results will be declared Oct 22.
