New Delhi, Jan 28 (IANS) Senior Congress leader and union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Friday said he hoped the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee forms the next government in West Bengal.”Trinamool Congress did very well in recent elections — both in the last Lok Sabha and municipality elections. I hope they will form the next government in the state,” Mukherjee told reporters at an informal luncheon here.
Trinamool Congress and its allies won 26 out of 32 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the 2009 general election. Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won 19 seats while the Congress won 6 seats.
In the Kolkata civic polls, the Trinamool Congress won 97 out of 141 seats last year.
On the Congress-Trinamool Congress coalition for the upcoming assembly polls, Mukherjee said: “They are with us at the centre. I hope we will be together during the state polls also.”
