Hooda votes in village with mother
October 13th, 2009 - 2:22 pm ICT by IANSRohtak (Haryana), Oct 13 (IANS) A confident Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Tuesday headed to his native village Sanghi with his mother, wife and MP son Deepinder Singh Hooda to cast his vote in the Haryana assembly election — but not before going for his morning walk.
The ruling Congress and Hooda are hopeful that the party will return to power by winning a comfortable majority in the 90-member assembly.
Counting of votes in the state takes place Oct 22, deciding the fate of 1,222 candidates, including 68 women.
Hooda accompanied his mother Hardei Devi to the polling station in Sanghi village in Rohtak district to cast their vote. Hooda’s wife Asha Hooda, MP son Deepinder Singh Hooda and some other relatives also voted.
“The Congress will sweep this election,” Hooda told media after casting his vote.
Hooda himself is contesting from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly seat in Rohtak district.
Hooda, who made sure that he did not miss his morning game of tennis or his evening walk during the hectic campaign in the last three weeks, went for a walk in a public park in the Model Town locality here Tuesday.
If the Congress retains power in Haryana, it will be historic since no government or party has returned to power after ruling for five years in over three decades in the state.
The Hooda government had got the previous assembly dissolved seven months before its term was to end.
The Congress had won nine out of 10 Lok Sabha seats in the May parliamentary election.
