Hollywood stars feature on the guest list of the Chinese state dinner

Washington DC, Jan 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A “quintessentially American” state dinner was thrown for the visiting Chinese president on Wednesday.

There were several guests on the list of Michelle and Barack Obama’s state dinner. The list included top Hollywood stars, big-time Chinese investors in the United States and leading Americans with Chinese descent.

The Chinese president, Hu Jintao, is on a historic state visit in the United States. During the dinner on Wednesday at the White House, actors Jackie Chan and James Brolin with his singer wife, Barbra Streisand were invited.

Also present on the dinner table were Microsoft’s Steven Ballmer, JP Morgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon, Vera Wang, Vogue’s Anna Wintour, artist Maya Lin, Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan, and Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

There were other former presidents at the dinner as well. Former presidents, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter also graced the occasion.

In all, there were 225 guests on the guest list and the dinner took place in three rooms; the State Dining Room, Blue Room and Red Room and the East Room.

The dinner which was held in honor of the visiting Chinese premier did not have any Chinese flavor to it. However the officials at the White House claimed that it was the idea of the Chinese delegation that things should be that way.
