Hisar (Haryana), Oct 9 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari Sunday said the by-election for the Hisar Lok Sabha seat was a historic one in the politics of the country.
Addressing a rally in support of Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC)-BJP candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi here, he urged voters to ensure that the Congress was routed in Hisar.
“The by-election on Hisar seat is no ordinary one. It is historic for the politics of this country. The Congress has promoted corruption in this country,” Gadkari said.
Reiterating his party’s support for an effective Lokpal bill, he said: “We (BJP) are fully committed to the Jan Lokpal bill prepared by Anna Hazare and his team. You (voters) have to ensure that you support it too.”
Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the Congress-led central government had committed atrocities on the agitation led by yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
She urged voters not to let the sacrifices of Ramdev, Hazare and their supporters go in vain and ensure that the Congress was routed in the Hisar by-election.
In separate public meetings, Team Anna activist Arvind Kejriwal said the stand of the Congress that the bypoll in Hisar was not of national importance was “an insult to the voters of Hisar”.
“Voters in Hisar are on the verge of making history. They should not let this opportunity go by. The Congress needs to be defeated,” Kejriwal said.
