New Delhi, March 28 (IANS) The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Monday said Hindutva was the “sheet anchor” of its ideological movement and dismissed the controversy related to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley’s alleged “opportunistic” remarks as per a leaked US embassy cable.
“He (Jaitley) has stated that he never used the word opportunistic nor is it his view. After his clarification, we do not see a reason to continue extending discussion on the subject,” RSS leader Ram Madhav said.
US embassy cables leaked by WikiLeaks and first accessed by The Hindu, had mentioned about a discussion of an official with Jaitley in which the BJP leader had been cited as having described the party’s use of Hindu nationalism as an “opportunistic issue.”
Jaitley denied having used the word opportunistic. However, the Congress has mounted an attack on Jaitley and BJP over the issue.
Ram Madhav said Hindutva was the “sheet anchor of our ideological thinking”.
“That is how every swayamsevak looks at it,” he said.
