Shimla, Feb 1 (IANS) With assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh due this year, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got a jolt Wednesday with some senior leaders resigning from the party over “rampant corruption” in the state.
They alleged that the government was involved in many illegal property transactions.
“The entire state is up for sale,” rebel leader Maheshwar Singh, a former MP and state BJP president, told reporters here.
He, along with former speaker of the state assembly Radha Raman Shastri and two former ministers Shyama Sharma and Mohinder Sofat, announced their resignations from the party.
They have decided to float a new political outfit, whose name will be announced soon.
Singh, who is also president of Himachal Bharashtachar Mukti Morcha (Himachal anti-corruption front), floated by the dissident leaders, said they had failed to convince the party high command over the issue of corruption.
“We met party president Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi in November and he asked for proof of the allegations. In the next meeting, we provided him all the evidences. He asked his subordinate to look into it. But there has been no reply from him till date,” he said.
“The fight against corruption would continue,” said Singh, who was dropped from the party’s national executive in November.
