Haryana increases pension for freedom fighters
August 15th, 2010 - 8:02 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Aug 15 (IANS) To mark India’s 64th Independence Day, the Haryana government Sunday raised the monthly pension of freedom fighters and their widows from Rs.6,000 to Rs.11,000 per month.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda made the announcement after unfurling the national flag at the 64th Independence Day function organised at Narnaul town.
The decision would provide additional financial benefit of Rs.7.50 crore to 1,250 freedom fighters and their widows, he said.
Hooda said that the values of sacrifice imbibed by the freedom fighters were such that the youth of Haryana still felt proud to serve the country.
“Every 10th soldier in the Indian Army belongs to Haryana,” he noted.
Hooda said that the state government was providing a number of facilities to the families of martyrs, freedom fighters, serving soldiers and ex-servicemen.
