Haryana declares holiday for panchayat elections
June 24th, 2010 - 5:42 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 24 (IANS) The Haryana government Thursday declared holiday on July 6 and 10 for all shops and commercial establishments falling within the jurisdiction limits of some districts where elections to panchayats, panchayat samitis and zila parishads (local councils) are to be held.
The districts where the holiday has been declared are Gurgaon — adjoining national capital New Delhi, and Panchkula — adjoining state capital Chandigarh, besides Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Hisar, Rewari and parts of Jind district.
A total of 3,960 candidates have filed their nomination papers for elections to panchayat samitis so far while 1,299 candidates have filed nominations for the zila parishad elections, state election commissioner Dharam Vir said.
