Chandigarh, Oct 10 (IANS) Election rallies and campaigning for the 90 assembly seats in Haryana reached fever pitch Saturday as the Sunday evening deadline for their end approached.
Among the star campaigners for the ruling Congress Saturday was Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who addressed three rallies Saturday in Samalkha (Panipat), Ateli (Mahendergarh) and Ballabhgarh (Faridabad).
Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address two election rallies in Nuh (Mewat) and Jhajjar Sunday.
“Campaigning for elections to Haryana Vidhan Sabha would come to a close on Oct 11 at 5 p.m. and there would be a complete ban on sale of liquor from 5 p.m. on Oct 11 to 5 p.m. on Oct 13,” Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer Sajjan Singh said Saturday.
He added that there would also be no sale of liquor on Oct 22, the day of counting of votes.
The Congress government in Haryana, led by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had got the assembly dissolved seven months before its term ended to seek fresh assembly polls.
The Congress had fared well in the May Lok Sabha poll, winning nine out of 10 parliamentary seats.
