June 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The son of one of America’s most powerful politicians is running for Governor of Nevada, yet his campaign tactics include avoiding his father’s name. Rory Reid, son of US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has gone to great lengths to keep his distance from his dad, likely to aid in his own campaign.

In this election year, while Rory Reid is hoping to take the seat of Nevada Governor, his dad, Harry Reid is in a serious battle to hold on to his Senate seat. Among political experts, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is widely agreed to be one of the most vulnerable incumbent seats in the US. The Health Care legislation which Harry Reid help push through the Senate is not sitting well with the state of Nevada.

Rory Reid’s campaign ads do not have his surname on them. Instead, Rory Reid’s campaign banners read “Rory 2010″ and his television ad states, “Paid for by Rory 2010″. Even on his website, Rory Reid’s biography does not mention his famous father at all.

Aside from the Health Care Reform issues which have sprung up in Nevada, Harry Reid is also unpopular among the voters in Nevada due to rising unemployment rates and the amount of foreclosures and bankruptcies in the state, which have soared. But Rory Reid feels that the choosing of the next governor of Nevada should not be about family ties.

However, Harry Reid does stand in support of his son. Kelly Steele, who is Harry Reid’s campaign spokesman stated, “Senator Reid loves his son very much and believes he would make an excellent governor.” Rory Reid told ‘The Associated Press’, “People I’m sure have an opinion about my father. What they have yet to do, many of them, is develop an opinion about me, and that’s what this campaign is about.”
