Nov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Nevada Senate Election results have been declared and the Democrat leader Harry Reid continues to retain his office, defeating Tea Party Favorite Republican Challenger, Sharron Angle. However, the results were very unpredictable till the last hours and competition was cut throat.
The reports show that about 100,000 ballots were cast on Tuesday in Las Vegas and Clark County by 3:00 PM. Nearly 290,000 were caste early by mails, with a turn out of 53%, four hours before the polling was closed. By the end, the turnout rose up to about 65%, as reported by the two election chiefs from the two most populated counties of Nevada. Harry Reid, who is not acceptable to many people because of the Democrat’s sluggishness to combat the growing rate of unemployment in the state, now has to face a serious challenge to make things better in order to produce more employment. Many of the anti Democrats said that the victory of Harry Reid would make no difference to the current rate of unemployment. Sharron Angle, on the other hand focused on this issue all through out her campaign, in order to gain confidence. She addressed Harry Reid as ‘an ally of child molesters and illegal immigrants’. Harry Reid countered by saying Sharron Angle is ‘wild’ and ‘extreme’. The supporters of Harry Reid thought Sharron Angle’s campaign as weird. She was perceived as a woman who would dismantle Social Security and force pregnant rape victims to have the baby.
However, at the end it was evident that none of the candidates could actually convince the voters, and therefore, the latter decided not to take the risk and caste their votes in favor of the candidate, who knows the responsibilities, rather than a feisty new challenger.
