Harrisburg Mayor Donald ‘Buzzy’ Faulker charged with DUI, city vehicle keys taken
August 26th, 2010 - 8:01 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattHarrisburg, Aug 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The mayor of Harrisburg - Donald “Buzzy” Faulkner have had his driving privileges stripped from him after the city council members voted 6-0 in favor of the removal.
During the voting, the mayor was not at the meeting and only one council member abstained from the voting.
The council members votes came on after the mayor was arrested and charged with driving while he was drunk and was found to be indulging in careless driving. He was charged on August 20 at the Poinsett County Sherriff’s Office.
After the voting, Rose Brown said the city was responsible for the mayor and because so many people looked up to the mayor it was a bad example for the mayor to do.
“We were concerned about the mayor driving a city vehicle, whether he’s working for the city or off hours. Our concern was the liability of the city. If something happened, the city could stand the chance of being sued,” according to Rose Brown, who represents Ward 4.
A Sheriff stopped the mayor after he was spotted driving at the wrong side of the road. When he came out of his white Chevrolet Impala, he used the top of the car to support himself. They officer also detected what appears to be a vomit on his front left pocket. When he was checked out, it was realized that the mayor was highly intoxicated.
